Volcano as we all know is a vent or aperture conical in shape (most of the times) in the surface of the earth from where a large amount of magma and hot lava flows out. Volcanoes are mostly formed by the movement of the tectonic plates of the earth’s crust. Volcano can sometimes may also be compare to a chimney from where there is an emission of huge quantity of ash and gases. Volcanoes are classified into three types active volcano, dormant volcano and extinct volcano. Active volcanoes are the ones in which the activity has been noticed recently and is predicted to be noticed in the near future. Dormant volcanoes are the ones which have not showed any activity since a long time .Extinct volcanoes are said to show no activity in future. Volcanoes sometimes tend to a great destruction and destroy even some of the cities by its hot lava , the air crafts flying in the air can get crashed due to sudden explosion of ash in air to a great height but sometimes the after-effects are seemingly good as they revive the nutrients of the soil make it very fertile for further use.
Here are some of the dangerous active volcanoes of the world listed below:-
10. MOUNT LOA
It is the significant part of U.S. States in forming the Island of Hawaii. It is present in the Pacific Ocean and is reported to be the largest volcano of the earth. It rises up to 4170 meters in the air. Sometimes it is also termed as ‘Long Mountain’. It is a very massive volcano and due to its weight the bottom floor of the sea has submerged and depressed up to several kilometres. Since its origin in 1832 it is said to have erupted approximately 32 times. It volume extends up and about to 40000 cubic kilometres. Its eruptions are not very frequent but when it explodes it emits a huge amount of lava in the Pacific Ocean and its gigantic eruptions have said to destroy some towns too. Latest eruptions have said to be occurred in 1984. Most of the times in winters it is usually roofed with snow.
9. LANGILA VOLCANO
It is the highly active and vigorous volcano of New Britain in Guinea. This volcano is composed of four volcano cones which partly cover each other. It is a complex volcano and its latest eruption was in November 2012 in which the ash coming out of the volcano reached the height of 5000 feet. It is situated on the Bismarck volcanic arc. Its eruptions are of strombolian and vulcanian origin. It is distinguished to an altitude of roughly 1330 meters. Its eruptions occasionally consist of lava flows and the explosions are mild and temperate. It is also branded under strata volcano.
8. MOUNT ETNA
This is one of the volcano of the continent Europe in Sicily (Italian island) which is considered to be the highest, largest and lively volcano .Its origin is related to the phenomenon of subduction of the earth’s tectonic African plate below the Eurasian plate .Its recent volcanic explosion was noted in 2013. Its eruptions take place in various styles. Its eruptions sometimes also include mud and ash. It is mainly categorized under strata volcano. It is spread in a large area of about 150 kilometers or we can say it as the measure of its base circumference. It is one of the great tourist attractions of Sicily. Not much destruction has been reported by the volcano instead it has been proving a boon to people from the point of view of tourist attraction and making the soil fertile for productive farming of olives.
7. MOUNT ST. HELENS
It is located in Washington in North West corner of United States. Its last explosion was noted in the year 2008. The speciality of this volcano is that it contains a series or cascade of mountains. The most dangerous eruption of the volcano was noted in the year 1980 which was basically started due to an earthquake followed by a land slide and the eruption consisted of ash, gases, small rock, dust etc. This is again the result of the phenomenon of shifting of the earth’s plates; Juan De Fuca is slide under the North American plate. It is raised up to a height of 2549 meters. It is sometimes referred to by the title ‘Smoking Mountain’. In 1980 this volcano created a lot of destruction in America.
6. UNZEN VOLCANO
It is a volcano which is made up of numerous volcanoes situated in Japan near the city of Nagasaki. It rises up to 1500 meters above the sea level. It eruptions are not that vigorous but are moderate to a large extent but the destructions caused by its eruption is extreme and leads to many deaths and further calamities. Its largest eruption occurred in the year 1991.
5. MOUNT SEMERU
It is positioned at the island of Java in Indonesia. Its eruption consists mainly of ash and it is usually reported to last for 20 to 30 minutes. It is formed by the overlying of the Ajek-Ajek and Jambangan calderas. It is a sheer sided stratovolcano which lastly occurred in 2011. It is elevated up to about 3676 meters. It is sometimes also referred to as ‘Mahameru’ or Great Mountain. It is basically a pattern of irregular and alternating plateaus.
4. BARREN ISLAND
It is a part of Andaman Islands in India. It is too a strata volcano rose up to a height of 305 meters. The most recent eruption of this volcano was in February 2013 when the explosion raised to about to a height of 6 km full of ash. This is well thought-out to be one of the most active volcanoes in India. It is basically located on the two tectonic plates of earth namely Indian and Burmese tectonic plates. The lava escapes from the volcano and reaches the surface of the Indian Ocean. It includes a large sized crater or depression about a distance of half kilometers from the shore of the ocean.
Regarded as one of the most active volcanoes all over the world it is situated in a small island in north direction in Sicily. The continuous eruptions have been noticed since the year 1932 and are going on about from the past 2000 years. It has been given the title of ‘the lighthouse of Mediterranean sea’ because of the burst of red glowing lava in its explosion. The explosion is very bright and visible from even a long distance. It is strata volcano with the elevation of about 936 meters. The latest eruption of this volcano was in January 2013. Its eruptions are not very dangerous instead they are mild and emit tonnes of gas per day. This volcano particularly attracts the tourists from all over the world.
2. LLAMIA, CHILE
It is considered to be one of the biggest and most dynamic volcanic of Chile located in north east corner of the city of Temuco. It is featured by short duration and brief explosions and consists of large amount of smoke and rocks. Its latest eruption was in the year 2009.One of its major and dangerous eruption was noted in year 1994 and the fear of further eruptions persists .It is a strata volcano with an elevation of 3125 meters above sea level. It was first formed thousands of years ago. Its eruptions consist of fountains lava too.

This is the highest peak present in Japan which is flawlessly shaped, extremely symmetric and still an active volcano in today’s history. Its altitude from the ground level is about 3776 meters. One interesting feature is that it is formed by the combined movement of three plates i.e. Amurian plate, Filipino, Okhotsk plates. This is on the whole the major attraction of Japan. Some inhabitants of Japan consider is a sacred place and a mark of exquisiteness of Japan. Its eruption contains terrific amount of volcanic ash due to which many disasters are caused like flooding of rivers because of deposition of volcanic ash in river beds. Special feature is its eruption does not contain lava.
