Suicide is the act of taking one own life. This is the path chosen by those who suffer mental pain and depression due to some problems or failures. Here is the list of those famous people who had an amazing life and who lived in the heart of millions but they were ruled by their fears, despair and depression that lead them to end their life. They could have seen another era of happy times and the beauty of life if they hadn’t taken such a disastrous step:
10. James Whale:
Born on 22 July 1983, this film director committed suicide on 29 May 1957. He directed the famous films like ‘Frankenstein’, ‘The Invisible Man’, ‘The Old Dark House’ etc. He reached the heights of success in the filming career but then started his failures and finally in 1941 his filming career was over. In 1956, he suffered from strokes. He committed suicide on 29th May 1957 by drinking alcohol and drowning himself into his swimming pool. His suicide note says:
“To ALL I LOVE,
“Do not grieve for me. My nerves are all shot and for the last year I have been in agony day and night—except when I sleep with sleeping pills—and any peace I have by day is when I am drugged by pills.
“I have had a wonderful life but it is over and my nerves get worse and I am afraid they will have to take me away. So please forgive me, all those I love and may God forgive me too, but I cannot bear the agony and it [is] best for everyone this way.
“The future is just old age and illness and pain. Goodbye and thank you for all your love. I must have peace and this is the only way.”
9. Peg Entwistle:
She was a British Actress born on 5th February 1908. Her mother died when she was just eight. She wanted to be a famous actress. But after listening to the comments for her role in ‘Thirteen Woman’ she got upset and committed suicide. This movie was released after her death. She leapt off the ‘Hollywood’ sign on Mount Lee on 16th September 1932 when she was just 24. She was also upset due to her reducing screen time. Her body was first noticed by a woman during hiking. However she was unidentified until her uncle linked her absence with the description of the found body. Her suicide note states:
“I am afraid, I am a coward. I am sorry for everything. If I had done this a long time ago, it would have saved a lot of pain. P.E.”
8. Dipendra Bir Bikram Shah:
King for a short period and a part of royal Nepalese family, he was born on 27th June 1971. After becoming King for three days officially as later her lingered in a coma before dying. General public still don’t believe what was told, that he killed his own family at royal dinner on 1st June 2001. He was also wounded by a self-inflicted gunshot to the side of his head. Few say that it was the result of a conspiracy rather than the truth told to all. In the royal dinner he misbehaved with the guests so his father told him to leave. He came back with the guns and shot ten people that include his father and mother. And then he shot himself in the head and he died after three days in the hospital.
7. Elliott Smith:
This gifted musician, singer and songwriter was born in Omaha on 6th August 1969. His ‘whispery spider-web thin delivery’ made him noticed and popular. He suffered from depression, alcoholism and drug-dependence. His suicidal tendency was first seen when he jumped off a clip, drunk. Later on, when he was 34, after a fight with his girlfriend he stabbed himself with a knife in the chest. After hearing his scream, his girlfriend went to check on him and found knife in his chest. She pulled out the knife and called 911 and he died in the hospital on 21st October 2003. His suicide note says:
”I’m so sorry—love, Elliott. God forgive me.”
6. Dano Plato:
She was born in Moore on 7th November 1963. She had a notable role in ‘Different Stroke’. But her career declined after that, even though she got some roles in independent movies. Her character was written out from the show because of an unplanned pregnancy, as claimed by the producers. She began having alcoholic problems and drugs in her early life. In 1988 her mother died, she got separated from Lambert and later on the custody of their only child was given to Lambert. She moved jobless to LA where she also robbed a store. She appeared for an interview just before her death where she faced some bad experiences. She was found dead in a vehicle outside her fiance’s mother’s house due to drug overdose.
5. Wendy O.Williams:
This punk pop star was born on 28th May 1949 and she committed suicide on 6th April 1998. She was the lead singer of American band ‘The Plasmatics’. Her choice of music made her the most controversial and radical female singer of the time. She made many unsuccessful suicide attempts by stabbing herself and by the overdose of ephedrine. Then finally at the age of 48 she shot herself in a deserted wooded area near her home. Her suicide note said:
“I don’t believe that people should take their own lives without deep and thoughtful reflection over a considerable period of time. I do believe strongly, however, that the right to do so is one of the most fundamental rights that anyone in a free society should have. For me, much of the world makes no sense, but my feelings about what I am doing ring loud and clear to an inner ear and a place where there is no self, only calm.”
4. George Sanders:
This English Film and Television actor born in 1906 committed suicide on 25th April 1972. ‘All About Eve’, ‘Rebecca’ and ‘The Jungle Book’ would have been incomplete without his contribution. He took five bottles of Nembutal, the barbiturate when he was 65 years old, in a hotel ‘Castelldefels’. His friend responded by saying that he appeared depressed due to his failed marriages and other tragedies. He left three suicide notes having his signature under the message that say:
“Dear World, I am leaving because I am bored. I feel I have lived long enough. I am leaving you with your worries in this sweet cesspool. Good luck.”
3. Kurt Cobain:
Born on 20 Feb 1967, this musician committed suicide on 5 April 1994. He was an American singer, songwriter, artist and musician who also founded the famous rock band ‘Nirvana’ with Krist Novoselic. He took the band to the heights that no one ever imagined. He has attempted for suicide in March 1994 also. On 8th April 1994, an electrician found his body at his Lake Washington Home, with a shotgun pointing at his chin and his body had a very high concentration of heroin and traces of Valium also. He also left a note for his imaginary friend named ‘Buddha’ from his childhood. It says:
“Thank you all from the pit of my burning, nauseous stomach for your letters and concern during the past years. I’m too much of an erratic, moody baby! I don’t have the passion anymore, and so remember, it’s better to burn out than to fade away.
Peace, love, empathy,
Frances and Courtney, I’ll be at your altar.
Please keep going Courtney, for Frances.
For her life, which will be so much happier without me.
I love you, I love you!”
2. Jeff Alm:
Jeff Alm was an American football player who was born on 31st March 1968. According to a witness:
“Alm and his best friend named Sean P. Lynch were in the car returning from a dinner at Houston-area steakhouse on 13th December 1993. Alm’s Cadilliac lost control and Lynch was thrown out of the car through the passenger window that caused his death. The car crashed. When Alm discovered that his friend had been thrown to death 30 feet below. Devastated from his death, Alm committed suicide. He shot himself to death using his pistol.
Who doesn’t know Hitler; the leader of Nazi Party? Born on 20 April 1889, he committed suicide 30 April 1945. Born in Austria, he was a German Leader and politician. He also founded the National Socialist German Workers Party which is also called Nazi Party. Hitler could not bear the defeat so when he realized at the end of 1944 that his land, Germany has lost the war, he did not allow retreats and committed suicide along with his wife by the gunshot and cyanide poisoning. One say prior to his death he wrote the suicide letter saying:
“I myself and my wife- in order to escape the disgrace of deposition or capitulation – choose death. It is our wish to be burnt immediately on the spot where I have carried out the greatest part of my daily work in the course of a twelve years’ service to my people.”
