He can be both, as defensive as a rock and devastate the opponent bowling attack like a hurricane. This batting powerhouse is known worldwide for his captaincy, leading the World Cup winning Indian squad in both T20 and ODI world cups. 8. Dwayne Bravo
Another all-rounder at the top 10, Dwayne Bravo is the young, new, hard hitting hot shot from the West Indies. 7. Virat Kohli

Alongside his captain MS Dhoni, his performance was nothing short of brilliant, in all of the matches leading to the IPL 2013. So in all odds, he is all set to get the highest runs for his team – the Royal challengers Bangalore. He scored 364 runs in 16 matches in the last IPL T20, indicating all the same, that he is the one to look out for.
6. Rohit Sharma
The game has changed so much that, whenever a young new player appears on the field, people already begin to drift off into thinking – he’s going to slog everything that comes at him. But every once in a while, a genius emerges to prove them wrong, and such kind of batsman is Rohit Sharma. He is a gifted right hander with prolific run gathering skills. 5. Suresh Raina
The T20 version of the game has revealed to the world, the new age of Firebrand cricketers from India, and on top of that list is our left handed hero – Suresh Raina. His young, fearless and charismatic attitude can lift up the spirits of any team, even at the worst possible situations imaginable. He is a solid striker of the ball who can perform surprisingly well under pressure. His lower order batting role has earned him the title of – the finisher, after his numerous match winning innings. He is the only batsman to score over 400 runs in every IPL series right from 2008 and is the highest run getter with a total of 2254 runs to his entire IPL innings. He is also a live wire on field known for extraordinary fielding performances.
4. Rahul Dravid
Probably the only legend to be on the top ten scorers in IPL, but when compared to his legendary batting skills, it is all but ordinary, to this performer. Though Rahul Dravid is more fondly known as – the Wall, in the ODI format; in the shorter version of the game he is nicknamed Jammy. The former Indian captain has over 10000 runs in both ODI and test formats of the game and the only batsman in Test history to score a century in every Test playing nation. He combines his classic batting skills and modern slogging to become a formidable batsman to any bowling attack. The former Royal Challengers skipper was the highest run getter for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2011. In IPL 2012, he scored 462 runs in just 16 matches.
3. Ajinkya Rahane
The fresh new talent from the Rajasthan Royals stable has been the subject of fascination for many critics. His solid opening technique and his unique talent for piling big scores, has been the key to the team’s victorious endeavors. He has a solid and powerful technique and a sound temperament which is quite rare in modern day cricketers; probably that’s what enables him to be the leading run scorer for the Rajasthan Royals. He scored 560 runs in just 16 matches with a batting average of over 40. Though a lot of pressure may be on his shoulders, he seldom expresses and plays the game like a boss.
2. Virendar Sehwag
Though a lot of players may need an intro or a quote on specific statistics, to show they can be aggressive run scorers; this is one player whose very name has become the adjective replacement for aggressiveness in Cricket. The Delhi Daredevil lives up to his name of being the most destructive batsman, every time he appears on the cricket field. His opening skills have redefined the way in which many teams start a bowling attack. He is a big hitter of the ball with almost no footwork but excellent hand-eye coordination. He slogs everything that’s thrown at him, and especially the ones which don’t deserve to be slogged. He has been the captain of the Delhi Daredevils team since 2008. In 2012 he made 495 runs in 16 matches with a whopping strike rate of 161. Though his current form is debatable, he just needs one match to get him in his groove.
1. Chris Gayle
He is the most devastating contemporary batsman of the world, and he is the best thing to have happened to the Indian Premier league and especially to the Royal challengers Bangalore. He was the first player to score a century in international T20, and the only one to have scored 7 or more tons in the T20 format; he is also the leading ‘six’ hitter in IPL. And that alone speaks volumes on why he is at the top. He scored an unbelievable 733 runs out in 2012 and single handedly led the team to victory on many occasions. Undoubtedly he is expected to be back with a bang in the starting IPL season 2013.
